Guest
Neko Hiroshi
Born on August 8, 1977, in Chiba, Japan
Started his career as a comedian in 2001 and joined Wahaha Honpo in 2003.
Achieved recognition for his strong performance in the “TBS All-Star Thanksgiving Mini Marathon” in 2006, which led him to start marathon training.
In 2008, he started serious marathon running, beginning with the Tokyo Marathon. In 2011, he changed his nationality to Cambodian in pursuit of becoming an Olympic representative.
Although initially selected as a representative for the Cambodian men’s marathon at the London Olympics in 2012, a new regulation by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) required athletes without prior international competition experience to fulfill specific residency or approval criteria. As he did not meet these criteria, his participation was disqualified.
Undeterred, he continued striving for the Olympics, maintaining his status as Cambodia’s top marathoner for four consecutive years. In 2016, he achieved his dream, representing Cambodia in the men’s marathon at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, finishing in 138th place.
His best time is 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 2 seconds (Tokyo Marathon 2023), making him the first comedian to compete in the Olympics as a marathon runner.
